What is AcroYoga?

Here are the answers to some common questions about AcroYoga.

What is AcroYoga?
“AcroYoga blends the wisdom of yoga, the dynamic power of acrobatics, and the loving kindness of healing arts. These three lineages form the foundation of a practice that cultivates trust, playfulness, and community.” AcroYoga.org

AcroYoga has 3 main elements:

  • Solar Acrobatic Practices are about one thing: Having Fun! If you’re not having fun you’re not doing it right. Partner Acrobatics combines three people: the base, the flyer and the spotter. The base creates the strong foundation for the flyer to trust. The spotter’s role is to ensure the safety of the flyer. Each plays an important role in ensuring safety and fun in the practise.
  • Lunar Healing Practices are the perfect balance to the yang solar practise. This involves Thai massage and therapeutic flying.
  • Yogic Practices are used to foster self awareness and balance.
What is AYFit?
AYFit is the social fitness innovation that combines strength training, cardio endurance, and flexibility with the partner work AcroYoga is known for.

Do I have the strength to do this?
”A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Lao-tzu

We start by teaching you the fundamentals which we build on over time. Just as in all Yoga Practise, you work to your own strengths and over time, the practice becomes second nature.

Do I need to bring a partner?
No, just come along and there will be friends to acro with in the class.

What do I wear?
Normal gym or yoga clothes. You may be in inverted positions so if you prefer to have your stomach etc covered, tight clothing may be more suitable.

Where can I learn to Acro?
We run regular AcroYoga and AyFit workshops at Inspire Yoga and Wellbeing.
