#sharethedignity

There are many Charities doing incredible work helping many people in our community.

This year, as a studio, we chose to support Share the Dignity though our Yoga for Dignity and It’s In the Bag campaigns. Share the Dignity is an Australian Charity bringing dignity to people who are homeless, at-risk or experiencing domestic violence.

As stated by abc news..

'In 2018, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) compiled comprehensive data on the prevalence of violence in Australia. Some of the stats they found are:

• 1 in 6 (1.6 million) women and 1 in 16 (500,000) men have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by a cohabiting partner since age 15.

• 1 woman a week and 1 man a month were killed by a current or former partner in the two years from 2012-13 to 2013-14.

• 2,800 women and 560 men were hospitalised in 2014-15 after being assaulted by a spouse or partner.

• 72,000 women, 34,000 children and 9,000 men sought homelessness services in 2016-17 due to family/domestic violence.'

The statistics are staggering.

Often when people are fleeing from domestic violence situations, they leave with nothing. Share the Dignity is a Charity that helps at the grass roots level.

Share the Dignity supply donated items to approximately 600 Charities and Organisations which assist homeless women and woman at risk of homelessness. The charities support homeless people and refuges for victims of domestic and family violence.

The Major Campaigns Run By Share the Dignity include:

Dignity Drive - #dignitydrive

In April and August they run their Dignity Drive where they collect sanitary products which are then donated to the registered charities. It’s not something we think about often, but sometimes these women have to choose between buying food for their children and buying sanitary items. Such a small every-day item can bring dignity to women when they need it most.

It’s In The Bag - #itsinthebag

Our studio just collected bags for #itsinthebag. Thanks to your generosity we collected 60 hand-bags filled with personal care products. These are distributed through partner shelters and charitable organisations. This year alone there were 35,000 bag requests at Christmas.

Activities For All - #activities4all

Share The Dignity provides activities to children in crisis. They partner with various clubs providing free sports and other activities for these kids.
